10 Great Songs For Pre-Gaming

By Alexandra Brown on March 1, 2015

As a college student, sometimes having fun is just as important as doing well academically when you’re on campus.

Sometimes, if you’ve had a rough week, or just worked really hard studying, completing group projects, taking exams and participating in extracurricular activities, it’s essential to let yourself have one night off to release some steam.

Going out is a major part of the social life in college, whether it’s going to fraternity parties, your friend’s apartment, or bars. Before going out, though, it’s always fun to pre-game with a few, or a lot, of friends to get in the mood to go out.

A necessary part of pre-gaming is music, but not just any music. While a lot of music might be good, it takes a specific type to get everyone pumped, ready, and excited to go out on the town.

These genres usually tend to be dubstep, rap, pop and top 100 songs, including remixes and classic songs that everyone can enjoy.

1. “Drunk in Love” by Beyoncé

When the Queen Bee surprised the world in 2014 by releasing her album “Beyoncé: Platinum Edition” with no publicity or advertising at all, it became an instant success. With top hits like “Partition,” “Flawless,” “711″ and “XO,” the album is arguably her best solo work thus far.

The third track on the album, “Drunk in Love,” makes for a perfect pump up song for pre-gaming and getting ready to go out. The song has an intense buildup followed by a beat perfect for getting excited to go out with friends.

2. “Tuesday (feat. Drake)” by I LOVE MAKONNEN

Before this song came out, we hadn’t heard much from Drake as we were awaiting his next great album since “Nothing Was The Same” in 2013.

Although this song has just recently become extremely popular and might be a tad overplayed on the radio, it’s perfect pre-gaming material for any day of the week, and especially Tuesday, for obvious reasons.

Whether you’re with a large group of people, or a few close friends, it’s easy to listen to and gets you in the right mood.

3. “V. 3005″ by Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) rose to mainstream fame with his 2013 album “Because The Internet,” whose ninth track “V. 3005″ makes for more chill pre-game material, but still gets you pumped to go out.

The lyrics are easy to catch on to, and it’ll get stuck in your head (but in a good way). It definitely does its job to get you in the mood for fun.

4. “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson

This new song is a favorite among my friends and a perfect song to dance around the apartment to before going out. It’s got a classic disco type feel to it with a great beat for dancing, and lets you belt it out obnoxiously in your friend’s face.

If this song doesn’t get you happy and in the mood for going out, I don’t know what will.

5. “She Knows” by Ne-Yo

This song is great for dancing at a pre-game and is easy to sing along to. Its catchy chorus combined with Juicy J’s rap verse at the end gets you excited to go out and will most likely be stuck in your head for the rest of the night, but again, in a good way.

6. “Yeah!” by Usher

Although this classic came out a while ago (2002 to be exact) it never gets old, and never fails to get a pre-game going, and to get you as pumped up as possible to hit the bars, a party, or whatever the night’s plans hold.

7. “Gotta Have It” by JAY Z

Off of JAY Z and Kanye West’s 2011 shared album “Watch The Throne,” which has numerous hits, like “Who Gon Stop Me,” Why I Love You,” and “Ni**as In Paris,” “Gotta Have It” is a must play at any pre-game.

The buildup to the chorus beat serves as the perfect way to get pumped up and ready for the night’s activities. Its rhymes are catchy too.

8. “Take Me Home (feat. Bebe Rexha)” by Cash Cash

This is a great pop/electronic song, and just makes you want to sing loud, get pumped and enjoy your night as much as possible. It’s great for jumping up and down, has catchy and memorable lines and is a definite must for your next pre-game.

9. “Latch” by Disclosure

Although this song, like so many others, has been overplayed on the radio, it’s still a great song for pre-gaming. Sam Smith’s voice makes the song what it is, and its suspenseful buildup and gripping beat and chorus make you want to listen over and over again.

10. “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” by Fall Out Boy

This song isn’t your usual rap/pop pump up song, but it’s a classic, and definitely gets you in the mood to have a good time.
